Resolved: Mon 2 Feb 2026, 5:15-18:30

The science area suffered power issues which led to temporary failures around the university buildings and affected many IT networks, including AV systems in several lecture rooms. There was a further blip at 10:45am. It was confirmed at 11:34am that power is now expected to be stable following a re-routing of high voltage circuits. The investigation of the original fault is ongoing.

AV in all lecture rooms has now been restored, apart from one camera failure in L6 (right-hand board camera).

Resolved: Tue 27 Jan 2026 - Fri 30 Jan 2026

The main department website and some other web services were intermittently unavailable due to a denial-of-service attack between Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening.

Between Wednesday evening and Friday morning, we were able to mitigate the attack by restricting access to some parts of the Room Booking system to the internal network.

Following a change to the code, this restriction has now been relaxed. We will be monitoring for further attacks, and will reinstate the restriction (and update this page) if necessary.

Resolved: Fri 23 Jan 2026, 10:40-11:10

An issue with one of the file servers caused problems accessing some home directories and files shares. The issue should be resolved now. If you are still unable to access anything, please try logging out and back in.

Resolved: Mon 19 Jan - Wed 21 Jan 2026

There is currently an issue with IPv6 connections to/from the department. We have escalated the issue to the IT Services Networks team.

As a temporary workaround, you may be able to use IPv4, e.g. to access gate use "ssh -4 gate.maths.ox.ac.uk" or use the IP address "129.67.184.29".

Resolved: Tue 13 Jan 2026, 08:15-09:15

Users were unable to log into Windows. The issue has now been resolved.

Resolved: Mon 08 Dec - Wed 10 Dec 2025

Some Windows desktops were intermittently unable to access network shared folders. Rebooting would sometimes fix this, but only temporarily. We have now identified the cause and resolved the underlying issue. If you are still having trouble, logging out and back in should now fix it. If not, please contact IT Support and include the name or asset ID (blue sticker) of the computer you are using. We're sorry for the disruption caused by this issue.

Resolved: Wed 03 Dec 2025, 09:50-11:25

An issue with the authentication (LDAP) servers caused errors when trying to log in or access shared folders. It also caused incoming mail to bounce between approximately 09:52 and 11:22. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
